Jackson: I'm delighted to help. What can I tell you?
杰克逊:我很乐意帮忙。你想知道些什么呢?
Wang Ping: I would like a general outline to begin with, if that's OK.
王平:如果可能的话,我想先了解一下大概情况。
Jackson: Fine. Perhaps I'd better begin from the beginning.
Children start school at about the age of five. From five to eleven, they attend primary school. At eleven, they transfer to secondary school.
杰克逊:好吧。也许我得从头说起。孩子们5岁左右开始上学,5岁到11岁上小学,11岁时升入中学。
2雅思口语Shoes话题
1. Do you like shopping for shoes?
Yes: Absolutely! Just like most girls do.Cuz to me, they are not just something you put on, but more of a fashion accessory (时尚配饰).
No: Actually, unlike some people, I’m not big on (be big on: be a fan of;be fond of) buying shoes. To me, it’s just a matter of (仅仅是…) finding the right ones. Nothingmore.
2. How often do you buy shoes?
Yes: From time to time (时常,常常), I think. I would buy acouple of new pairs of shoes almost every season to match with my outfit (搭配我的着装).
No: Probably once in a few months, onaverage (平均来说). Cuz my shoes tend to be quite durable (耐用的,耐穿的), and they usually last a long time before they are worn out (磨破,穿破).
3. What kinds of shoes do you usually buy?
I shop for a wide range of shoes, from highheels (高跟鞋), flats(平底鞋), boots (靴子), totraining shoes (运动鞋), you know, to serve different needs (满足不同的需求).
The shoes I shop for are mostly simple, plain-looking (ordinary-looking) and comfortable ones. Cuz that’s basically everything that I need!
4. Do you prefer comfortable shoes, or good-looking shoes?
That’s an easy one! When it comes to shoes, comfort is always the number one priority(something that is more important than anything else). But that doesn’t mean I don’t care for (be fond of) looks. I mean, nobody wants to wear shoes that lookhideous(super ugly), right?
5. Do you have a pair of shoes that you especially like?
I do, as a matter of fact (in fact; actually). They are a pair of limitededition (限量版) that I bought a few years ago. I kind of splurgedon (splurgeon sth: spend a lot of money on sth 挥霍) them, but they are totallyworth it (be worth it: 值得)!
3雅思口语成功的公司话题
Describe a small company that you think is successful.
You should say:
what the name is
how you know about it
what does this company do
and explain why do you think it is successful.
I want to tell you about a small company called “Two Guys One Pie”. I’m not sure you will have heard of them because they have a very small premises that is a little out-of-the-way. As far as I know, their only location is in the Sanlitun area of Beijing, down a back street, but I’ve heard it through the grapevine that they may be expanding.
I first knew about the shop through a friend of mine who shares my passion for pies. A good pie is like gold dust in Beijing, so if somewhere decent opens that sells them, you can be sure I’ll get wind of it. They do a bit of advertising in local magazines, but I think most people hear about “Two Guys One Pie” from word of mouth.
In my humble opinion, they made the best pies in Beijing. They are hands down the most delicious meat-filled pastry you’ll find this side of Australia! They also have interesting fillings such as Thai Green Curry or Italian Vegetables and are constantly updating their menu to keep people coming back for more.
Considering their humble beginnings, I can only assume their business is a huge success. Judging by the queues, they must be making a pretty penny. On their busiest evenings, people line up down the street to get a taste of their latest offering or old favourites.
4雅思口语喜欢读的书话题
Describe a book you liked to read in your childhood.
You should say:
who wrote this book
what it is about
hen you read it
and explain why you liked it.
I wasn’t much of a bookworm but I did occasionally read novels from time to time during my childhood. In fact, I’d like to talk about a book I read when I was 9 years old, written by Li Hong. Its English name translates as ‘Hero’.
I would have been in primary school at the time, I guess around grade 4, but I can’t remember exactly off the top of my head. Bear in mind that in those days I would rather go outside and play with my friends than read a book, but I remember this book in particular taking up a large portion of my time.
The book is actually the first in a series of 6 books that are set in a fantasy world of old magic, monsters and knights in shining armour. It is set on an epic scale across a vast, vibrant and immensely detailed world with each chapter dedicated to just one character’s viewpoint. It’s perfect for a young boy with a vivid imagination, looking for a bit of adventure.
In this way I think the book really stands out from the others I have read. The plot lines twist and turn with many surprises and cliff-hangers so I found it almost impossible to put down. The speed the story develops makes the book a real page-turner and even though it is nearly 1000 pages long I got through it in under a fortnight.
